Nord StarT Privacy Notice

Nord StarT competition is organised by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture in collaboration with LUMA Centre Finland. The Ministry of Education and Culture is the controller for processing of personal data.  Until the end of 2021, the organization responsible for the processing of personal data is the University of Helsinki as the administrator of the LUMA Centre Finland network.

What kind of personal data do we process? 

We process the following data of Nord StarT competition participants: 

  • Name 
  • Email address 
  • Photos and videos shared by the participant 
  • Information shared by the participant  

The processing of personal data does not include the processing of sensitive information. 

Why do we process your personal data and what is the lawful basis for processing? 

Your personal data is processed to enable your participation in the Nord StarT competition. The legal basis for processing your personal data is your consent that you can withdraw. The data is used for:  

  • Assessment and awarding during the competition  
  • communication with the participants during the competition 
  • the public sharing of practices and project ideas 

How do we collect and store your personal data?  

The personal data is collected from the participants of Nord StarT competition through an online form within the application time for the competition (1.8.2021 – 30.11.2021). The information is stored securely on an electronic service that is intended for this purpose. 

We will store the personal data until the end of the competition (31.12.2022).  

Do we disclose your personal data to third parties? 

The personal data is shared only as appropriate with the employees of the University of Helsinki and the agencies and departments of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. In respect of potential scholarships and other awards donated by our partners, we also share personal data as needed with these partners.  

Personal data can be transferred to competition committees in Nordic countries and in autonomous regions participating in Nord StarT. The transfer is necessary to enable the participants from these countries and regions to participate in Nord StarT. In addition personal data can be shared, if necessary, with the Nordic Council of Ministers. 

What rights do you have? 

The registered person has the following rights: 

  • the right to get information about how the personal data is processed, unless the law states an exception 
  • the right to access the data 
  • the right to rectify the data 
  • the right to limit the use of the data 
  • in terms of rectifying the personal data or limiting the use of it the data controller has the obligation to announce if the information has been transferred to another data controller  
  • the right to oppose the processing of the data  
  • the right to not end up as the target of automatic decision making without lawful grounds 

There is no intention to differ from the rights of the registered person. The contact person in matters concerning the rights of the participant is the person mentioned in the beginning of this notice. 

Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority 

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Ombudsman’s Office if you think your personal data has been processed in violation of applicable data protection laws.
