This year the winners came from <\/span><b>China, Jordan, Portugal and Finland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. &nbsp;The Director of LUMA Centre Finland, <\/span><b>Prof. Maija Aksela <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and the Chair of the Board of LUMA Centre Finland, <\/span><b>Prof. Jan Lundell<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, handed awards at the gala. Read more about StarT <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/start.luma.fi\/en\/about-start\/what-is-start\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>In the winning projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> students created e.g. a flash flood alert system, researched the question \u201cWhen do children feel healthy and happy?\u201d and created a drone from a scratch to enhance its design and function. <\/span><b>The winning best educational practices<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> showed how to make use of childrens\u2019 questions through an interdisciplinary approach and how to combine the teaching of statistics, ICT and languages into one project. When assessing the projects, the StarT jury has focused on<\/span><b> innovativeness, interdisciplinarity, collaboration and creativity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The International LUMA StarT Awards were awarded for the third time this year. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/start.luma.fi\/en\/2018\/10\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">internationally awarded StarT programme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has been organized by the LUMA Centre Finland, a network of Finnish science, technology and mathematics universities, since 2016. So far we have had participants from over 40 countries. &nbsp;In 2018-19, 900 learning communities, <\/span><b>2300 teachers and 25 600 children and youngsters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> have participated in the StarT programme. For the competition <\/span><b>we received this year 640 projects and 250 best practices from 17 different countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>  <em>\u201cStarT projects are a terrific way to learn skills and abilities of the future world. To plan, to design, to achieve and to evaluate the outcome of a StarT project is a way to learn to tackle global challenges for a better and more prosperous world. It is the StarT of a curious mind needed to create clever solutions.\u201d<\/em>, <strong>Prof. Lundell<\/strong>,<em> <\/em>the Chair of the Board of LUMA Centre Finland<em> <\/em>commented.  <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/start.luma.fi\/en\/2019\/04\/08\/the-favourites-of-the-public-have-been-chosen\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The public\u2019s most voted favourite<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> projects and best practices and the most active country of StarT 2018-19 were also awarded at the StarT gala.
